as the war wages on, these are the casualties we don't hear about
those closest to me have been effected by this war. my husband, wounded, almost unable to walk. I, myself, have also been wounded. the scar still lingering on my hip. it seemed like no one was doing anything about it.
and that was because the bag of insect killing granules was still sealed and sitting on the porch. the fire ants had taken control...broken through our line of defense (the back door) and started marching through our new carpet. i received my first bite in my "knee-pit"... kibored was recipient of a full-on attack. unable to run, he had to go to sick-call to get some super-strength salve to cool the firey reaction caused by these insects that seem to rule central texas.
finally, tonight, i had had enough. my baby and my mother needed protection. it was now up to me.
i donned rubber gloves,(or were they latex?) and stepped into my old running shoes that have now been converted to lawn-care shoes due to the intense green color of their soles. i snapped together the granule spreading machine and poured some poison into the hopper.
ruthlessly, i doused the front and rear yard with a hearty helping of stuff you wouldn't want to get in your eye. stuff to kill the fire ants, rolly-pollys, spiders, oh yes, and FROGS!
small frogs live in hordes around the shade of our house's vinyl siding. they used to scare the crap out of me..i was thinking they were some sort of beetle or non-frog entity, but i didn't take long for me to come to enjoy their company. heck, i even felt a little guilty when the lawnmower accidentally got too close and, well, you can guess...
but now, now i'm responsible for mass-frog killing.
well, i DID hear from the cockroaches that the frogs may have been storing Weapons of Mass Destruction...
